The first ever PlayStation-certified Android smartphone is destined to be a hit among the consumers. The strong PlayStation/PSP connection can be sensed both from its hardware and appearance (the real game controls!) So let’s take a closer look and see if it meets our expectations.Within the box you can find: Inside the box you can find: a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Phone, of course, a battery, a charger, a handsfree, and a user’s guide.

Without sliding it up, the Xperia Play is basically not so special from usual smartphones. The 4-inch screen is a decent one with wide viewing angles and 854 x 480 resolution. Though we find it a bit dim especially during outdoor. The four hard keys are the same like those on Xperia Arc and most Android phones.

While at the back locates a 5-megapixel camera. Not the best among today’s advanced smartphones, yet good enough for shooting with mediocre quality of video shooting.

So once you try, you realize the innovation brought by the game control doesn’t limit to merely the gaming experience. We find the D-Pad really convenient to move around the screen and the circle key natural and pleasing to use on a device like this.

While those on the right are also easy to hold and use. You can as well find the Select and Start key on the right bottom, resembling an actual game control.

There are two additional shoulder buttons can be found outside to replace the L1 and R1 controls on a proper game control pad. However, we find them a little bit too sensitive as they are easily to be activated unintentionally during gameplay.

Near the top on the handset you can find a 3.5mm headphone port. All in all, the Xperia Play is indeed ground-breaking as it pushes forward the standard of entertainment (gaming in this case) in mobile phone. Though not with flaws, still it’s a nice attempt of Sony to blend the PSP element into the handset. Try it and you will like it!
