Motorola ROKR EM30 Quadband Unlocked Phone Review

Motorola ROKR EM30 seems to be a youthful mobile at first sight. It’s fiery looking and is not as complicated as some of its counterparts in the market. Let’s see what lies beneath the youthful look of EM30.

The package comprises the EM30 phone, a battery, a charger, a set of earphone, CD-ROM and a user’s guide.

EM 30 has an upright candy-bar design. The red rim exudes a youthful vibe. However, the 2.0” screen can be larger.

When the phone is on, the D-pad and number keys are illuminated in blue against the black keypad. Functional in dark while looking good in daylight.

I am not a fan of flat-key design because it is not really finger-friendly. I press the wrong key always when I text. Lucky that EM30 has this little dot on each flat key to make it easier for the fingertip.

ROKR EM30 is a music phone. It has high-fidelity audio, which definitely is pleasant to the ears. It supports a variety of music format which enable users to have a larger and wider collection of music. FM tuner with the RDS technology allows users to read information of the song playing. There’s Windows Media Player 11 which gives freedom to download music from more than 200 online music stores worldwide.

EM30 has inherited from E8 the highly acclaimed ModeShift technology that allows you to switch between music and phone modes. Red keys are illuminated when music mode is on. Unlike E8, camera mode is absent. As the camera is only 2.0 mega-pixel and is not really powerful, it is happily backgrounded.

3.5mm headphone jack has to be a necessary feature for the music-highlighted phone cause I can get rid of the crappy earphones that comes along the package.

There are shortcuts on the keypad like the vibration switch. How user-friendly.

As the phone itself does not have a larger internal storage, it has a MicroSD slot allowing upgrade up to 8GB, yet you have to remove the back cover to get access to it.

The main theme of ROKR just fits the EM30 phone very much with a firework-like stormy artworks.

ROKR EM30 is a rocker like its name. Music is definitely its best attribute. The design also echoes with the phone’s youthful character. If it supported 3G, it could really be rocking.
