DoCoMo x Sony Ericsson Foma SO905iCS ~~
To test out this phone, it is rather difficult for me. All the text in the manual is in Japanese. But the Sony Ericsson (Japan!) SO905iCS is definitely worth the hassle. In the DoCoMo standard format, SO=Sony, 905i = the fifth generation, CS= Cyber Shot. So we can read this is a Fifth Gen DoCoMo phone from Sony with special feature as a Cyber Shot camera.
Of course the main focus will be on how well this Cyber Shot Camera phone performs comparing to other heavy weight competitors like the N82 or N95. But just opening the box and holding one of these babies on hand excites you so much already. The built quality of this Sony Ericsson is definitely not the same of the regular Sony Ericsson I am seeing each and everyday. Japanese products excel.
The phone comes in a very tiny small box, with just blue printing on it. Everything is packed intact.
Box opened, you will get a phone, a battery, CD and a manual full of Japanese. Yes that’s it. Somehow you will not get any USB cable or the Charger. So we decided to get an after market one for our customers.
Well, this time I got lucky, I get both the white and the pink for comparison. Honestly I love the phone. IT IS SO BEATUIFUL… However, getting myself back to the reality, this phone is quite thick. Really thicker than a 10 mega pixel fully functional camera. Sigh.
The Japanese phone is quite long. The screen size is made to match the 3G TV format in Japan. Yes, you can watch TV in Japan with these phones. And I took pictures in this wide format for you guys to see as well. Also the themes of these phones are very beautiful.
This phone does not come with Xenon flash. Why? That is a real good question. Just like this phone does not come with Bluetooth capability. Why?? Anyway, the Cyber Shot camera functions are really king of its class. It is a 5 mega pixel auto focus camera with 3 x optical zoom with anti-hand shake and smile shutter built-in.
2.8mm wide angle with super macro built-in. It is a serious Cyber Shot camera.
Yes it does not have Bluetooth, so Japanese people are using infra red to transfer phone data!
The power is located at the very bottom of the phone. May be it is the Japanese style, kind of odd to me. The navigation with the scroll button in the centre is very useful.
Slide open to use the large keypads. We can also see the shutter and playback button on the side. Oh this phone can take 640x480 video, so it needed a button to playback.
Haha, this is interesting. This SE is using Micro SD card. Mm… not M2… well, looks like in the Japan market, people are using Micro SD as a standard. The other tiny button is the push talk thing that you can use as a walkie talkie, (in Japan only). The key button is for keypad unlocking. Kind of handy this way.

Other than the full Japanese manual, the phone is pretty easy to use. The phone menu of course is in English and you can switch it back to Japanese. The built quality excels. You hold one in hand and you can tell the different without looking at it. The SO905iCS is a Triband 900, 1800, 1900 and 3G phone. Not sure what type of 3G it is. In Japan they called it FOMA (wCDMA). Looks like a HSDPA 2100. People in the forum said that it will support the 850 US 3G? Can someone familiar with the Japanese phones comment on that one?
I am not sure about you, but I personally will tell some female friends of mine about this Japan SE phone right away. This is definitely something worth the referral.
